Researchers find critical Mali threat in Samsung Exynos phones
On November 22nd, the Google Project Zero team discovered multiple security vulnerabilities and threats affecting various Samsung devices, especially those with Exynos chipsets with Mali GPUs.
One of the vulnerabilities discovered could lead to kernel memory corruption. Other threats, but not all of them, can leak physical memory addresses, and the other three can lead to free-after-use physical page states.
In general, when a Samsung Exynos device is affected by one of these Mali vulnerabilities or threats, an attacker running native code in an app can gain full system access and bypass the OS's privilege model. increase.
Google's Project Zero team said in a blog post that these vulnerabilities allow attackers to continue reading and writing physical pages even after returning to the system.
Notably, Google's Project Zero team originally discovered these flaws while researching Pixel 6 devices. Thankfully, all Galaxy models with Snapdragon processors are not affected by these vulnerabilities.
In July, ARM discovered these Mali-related security flaws, but none of the smartphone makers issued patches for them. Project Zero has finally found the issue on Android, so hopefully we'll get a patch next month.
Apart from Samsung, ARM Mali GPUs are also used in Xiaomi and OPPO smartphones. Therefore, some of Xiaomi and OPPO devices may also be affected by these Mali-related security flaws.
Here's a first look at the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G - 5K rendering and 360 video.
Samsung could launch the Galaxy A34, a mid-range 5G smartphone, in late December/early January. Ahead of the official announcement, well-known leaker OnLeaks, in collaboration with Giznext, has already revealed the design of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A34 5G device in 5K rendering and 360 video.
Starting with the rear panel, the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G smartphone packs a triple camera setup that could include primary, ultrawide and macro sensors. Each vertically arranged camera sensor is flanked by an LED flash, giving it a similar look to the Galaxy A32.
The Galaxy A32 was the first to debut a module-less camera design, which has been impressively expanded with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The three Galaxy S23 series models are likely to ditch the Island and adopt the same camera design, so the Galaxy A34 could be on board as well.
On the front, the Galaxy A34 handset will be presented with an Infinity-U panel consisting of a waterdrop-shaped notch for the selfie camera. The same report also claims that the upcoming phone will feature a 6.5-inch display, which can be expanded to 161.3 x 77.7 x 8.2mm.
Apart from this, the upcoming Samsung Midranger appears to feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the power button, along with a volume rocker on the right. The left frame is still empty, with a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack and microphone on the bottom, and a SIM card tray on top.
Samsung has yet to reveal when it will unveil the Galaxy A34 smartphone, but leaks and rumors are constantly popping up on the web. Ahead, we got an idea of what the Galaxy A14 and Galaxy A54 will look like. At the same time, renderings of the Galaxy A74 may also be coming soon.
